Preservation Policy

Electronic Archiving and Digital Preservation

This policy describes how Jurnal Agroekoteknologi Tropika Lembab maintains, protects, and preserves its published content and associated metadata for continuing public access.

Jurnal Agroekoteknologi Tropika Lembab (JATL), internationally titled Humid Tropical Agroecotechnology Journal, recognizes that digital publication requires continuing preservation beyond the initial publication date. The journal's preservation plan combines public access through its OJS archive, institutional backup and recovery responsibilities, persistent metadata, and permitted repository deposit.

Public Journal Archive

JATL maintains a publicly accessible archive of its published volumes, issues, and articles through the Universitas Mulawarman electronic journal platform. The archive currently provides access to journal issues published from the journal's first volume in 2018 onward.

Preservation Strategy

1
OJS Publication Archive

Published issues, articles, files, and descriptive metadata are maintained in the journal's Open Journal Systems publication environment.

2
Institutional Backup and Recovery

The electronic journal platform administrator is responsible for maintaining backup and recovery procedures covering the journal database, uploaded article files, publication metadata, and system configuration required to restore access.

3
Persistent Identification and Metadata

Published articles receive persistent identifiers where applicable, and bibliographic metadata is maintained to support discovery, citation, linking, and identification of post-publication updates.

4
Repository and Author Copies

Authors may deposit published articles in institutional, disciplinary, or other non-misleading repositories in accordance with the journal's copyright and Creative Commons license.

5
Continuity Planning

If the journal or its current platform ceases operation, reasonable efforts will be made to keep published content accessible through the publisher, a successor platform, an institutional repository, or a verified preservation service.

Backup and Recovery Responsibilities

The journal's editorial team coordinates with the administrator of the Universitas Mulawarman electronic journal platform regarding technical preservation. Backup and recovery procedures should:

  • include both the OJS database and uploaded publication files;
  • include system information needed to reconstruct the journal;
  • maintain backup copies separately from the primary production system;
  • restrict access to authorized personnel;
  • protect files against unauthorized alteration, loss, or disclosure;
  • include periodic verification that backup files can be read and restored; and
  • document restoration procedures and responsible technical contacts.

File Formats and Integrity

Published article files are maintained in widely readable formats, principally PDF, together with their OJS metadata. When migration to a new platform or file format becomes necessary, JATL will seek to preserve the article's content, citation information, DOI, licensing information, publication history, and links to any corrections or retractions.

Important: DOI registration and indexing improve identification and discovery, but they are not substitutes for preserving the article files themselves. JATL therefore treats persistent metadata and file preservation as complementary responsibilities.

Author Self-Archiving

Authors may archive the published version of their article on personal websites, institutional repositories, disciplinary repositories, or other appropriate scholarly platforms, subject to the article's Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license.

The deposited copy should include:

  • the complete bibliographic citation;
  • the article DOI or link to the official journal page;
  • a statement identifying JATL as the place of first publication;
  • the applicable copyright and license information; and
  • a link to any correction, retraction, or later update.

External Preservation Services

JATL will identify a distributed preservation service as active only after participation has been enabled and successful deposit or coverage has been verified. The journal periodically evaluates suitable preservation arrangements, including services compatible with Open Journal Systems and preservation agencies recognized by the Keepers Registry.

Information on any verified LOCKSS, CLOCKSS, PKP Preservation Network, institutional repository, or comparable preservation coverage will be added to this page when confirmation is available.

Journal or Platform Discontinuation

If JATL ceases publication or moves to another platform, the publisher will seek to preserve continuing access to previously published articles. Relevant files and metadata may be transferred to a successor platform, institutional repository, library, or verified digital preservation service.

Where technically possible, existing URLs and DOI links will be maintained or redirected so that readers can locate the preserved version of the scholarly record.

Preservation of Corrections and Retractions

Corrections, expressions of concern, and retraction notices form part of the permanent scholarly record. They will be preserved and linked to the affected articles in accordance with the journal's Corrections and Retractions Policy .

Archiving and Access Enquiries

Report an inaccessible article, missing file, broken DOI link, or other preservation concern to the editorial office.
