2. Materials and Methods Describe the research design, location and time, materials, instruments, treatments, sampling, measurements, and data analysis in sufficient detail to permit evaluation and replication. Cite established methods and explain any modifications.
3. Results and Discussion Present results clearly and concisely. Discuss their scientific meaning by comparing them with previous findings, explaining similarities and differences, and emphasizing the significance or novelty of the research.
4. Conclusion State the principal conclusion concisely and ensure that it directly reflects the research objective and findings. Do not merely repeat the results or abstract.
5. Acknowledgments Briefly acknowledge individuals, institutions, research facilities, grants, and other sources of financial or technical support. Any relevant conflict of interest should also be disclosed.
6. References Include only works cited in the manuscript. Arrange entries alphabetically by the first author’s surname and format them consistently according to the JATL template.

Headings and Subheadings

  • Subsection headings use Times New Roman, 10 pt, bold, title case, and centered.
  • Lower-level headings use Times New Roman, 10 pt, bold, title case, and left alignment.

  • Tables and figures must be clear, editable where appropriate, and understandable without excessive reference to the main text.
  • Do not present the same data simultaneously in both a table and a graph.
  • Color figures should be used only when color is necessary to preserve scientific information. Clear black-and-white charts are preferred where possible.
  • Authors must acknowledge the source and obtain permission for any figure or other material owned by a third party.
  • Appendices are generally not included. Extensive supporting data may be submitted as supplementary material when appropriate.

  • Write the complete scientific name at first mention. The genus may subsequently be abbreviated if this does not create ambiguity.
  • Chemical and biochemical nomenclature should follow recognized IUPAC–IUB conventions.
  • Use International System of Units (SI). If another system is necessary, provide the SI equivalent at first mention.
  • Unit abbreviations such as g, mg, kg, mL, and L are not followed by a period.
  • Negative indices such as m−2, L−1, and h−1 are preferred where appropriate.
  • Express fractions as decimals and use the symbol “%” instead of spelling out “percent.”

Citations and References

  • Three or more authors: use the first author’s surname followed by et al., for example Balagadde et al. (2008).
  • Unpublished data and personal communications should be cited only in the text and should not appear in the reference list.
  • At least 80% of references should preferably be scientific journal articles published within the most recent five years, except where older foundational literature is scientifically necessary or for taxonomic studies.
  • Authors are encouraged to use a reference manager such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.
