Authorship and Contribution

Editorial Policy

Authorship and Contribution

This policy establishes the criteria for authorship, contributor recognition, author responsibilities, and changes to authorship in manuscripts submitted to the Jurnal Agroekoteknologi Tropika Lembab.

Jurnal Agroekoteknologi Tropika Lembab (JATL), internationally titled Humid Tropical Agroecotechnology Journal, recognizes authorship as both scholarly credit and responsibility. Every person listed as an author must have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work and must be accountable for the integrity of the published article.

Authorship Criteria

JATL applies the authorship principles recommended by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). A person listed as an author must satisfy all four of the following criteria:

1
Substantial contribution
Has made a substantial contribution to the conception or design of the work, or to the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of research data.
2
Manuscript preparation
Has drafted the manuscript or critically reviewed it for important intellectual content.
3
Final approval
Has reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript to be published.
4
Accountability
Agrees to be accountable for the work and to ensure that questions concerning the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Important: All persons who meet these four criteria should be listed as authors, and every person named as an author must meet all four criteria. Authorship must not be assigned solely because of academic position, institutional authority, funding acquisition, general supervision, or personal relationship.

Author Contribution Statement

Authors must clearly describe the contribution made by each author. JATL recommends using the CRediT Contributor Roles Taxonomy to provide a transparent and standardized description of individual contributions. One author may hold several roles, and the same role may be shared by several authors.

Conceptualization: A.B. and C.D.; methodology: A.B.; investigation: A.B., E.F., and G.H.; formal analysis: C.D.; data curation: E.F.; writing—original draft: A.B.; writing—review and editing: all authors; visualization: G.H.; supervision: C.D.; funding acquisition: C.D. All authors have read and approved the published version of the manuscript.

Responsibilities of All Authors

  • Ensure that the manuscript is original, accurate, and has not been published or submitted simultaneously elsewhere.
  • Approve the authorship list, author order, affiliations, and the final version of the manuscript.
  • Disclose all potential financial and non-financial conflicts of interest.
  • Provide accurate research data and relevant supporting information when reasonably requested by the journal.
  • Ensure that all necessary research ethics approvals, permissions, and informed consent have been obtained.
  • Correctly cite and acknowledge all sources, materials, datasets, funding, and contributions from other parties.
  • Cooperate with the journal in correcting or retracting the article if a significant error or integrity concern is identified before or after publication.

Corresponding Author

The corresponding author acts as the primary contact between the author group and JATL. The corresponding author is responsible for:

Before Submission

Confirming that all authors meet the authorship criteria, approve the manuscript, and agree with the authorship order.

During Editorial Processing

Managing communications with the journal and communicating editorial decisions and revision requirements to all authors.

After Publication

Remaining available to respond to questions, provide supporting information, and cooperate in resolving post-publication concerns.

The corresponding author does not hold greater ownership of the article than the other authors and remains responsible for representing the collective agreement of all authors.

Author Order

The order of authors must be determined collectively by the author group before submission. JATL does not determine the order of authors and will not arbitrate authorship disputes. Authors should discuss authorship and contribution roles at the beginning of the research and review them whenever individual contributions change.

Non-Author Contributors and Acknowledgments

Individuals who contributed to the work but do not meet all authorship criteria must not be listed as authors. Their contributions may instead be described in the acknowledgment section, subject to their permission. Examples include:

  • administrative or logistical assistance;
  • general supervision without a substantial intellectual contribution;
  • technical, laboratory, or field assistance;
  • language editing or proofreading;
  • provision of materials or research facilities; and
  • funding acquisition without another qualifying contribution.

The corresponding author should obtain permission from individuals whose names are included in the acknowledgment because such acknowledgment may be interpreted as their endorsement of the work.

Unacceptable Authorship Practices

Guest Authorship

Listing a person to increase the manuscript's credibility or prestige even though that person does not qualify as an author.

Gift or Honorary Authorship

Granting authorship because of position, seniority, personal relationship, or expected reciprocal benefit.

Ghost Authorship

Omitting a person who made a qualifying contribution or hiding the involvement of a writer or another relevant contributor.

Changes in Authorship

Requests to add, remove, reorder, or replace an author after submission must be exceptional and supported by a clear explanation. The corresponding author must submit:

  • a written explanation for the proposed change;
  • an updated description of each author's contribution;
  • written agreement from all listed authors and from any author being added or removed; and
  • updated conflict-of-interest information where applicable.
Editorial processing may be suspended while an authorship-change request is evaluated. JATL reserves the right to reject a request when adequate justification or complete written agreement is not provided.

After publication, an approved authorship change will be issued through a formal correction linked to the original article. When authors cannot resolve a dispute, the journal may refer the matter to the relevant institution. The journal does not determine authorship through private disputes between researchers.

Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence tools, large language models, chatbots, and similar technologies cannot be listed as authors because they cannot approve the submitted work, declare conflicts of interest, hold copyright, or accept responsibility for the accuracy and integrity of an article.

Authors remain fully responsible for all submitted content. Any substantive use of artificial intelligence in manuscript writing, data analysis, image production, or other research activities must be disclosed transparently in the appropriate section of the manuscript.

Authorship Concerns and Disputes

Suspected guest, gift, honorary, or ghost authorship may be investigated in accordance with the journal's research-integrity procedures. The journal may request contribution records, declarations, or confirmation from the authors and their institutions.

If the author group cannot reach an agreement, the matter should be referred to the institution or institutions where the research was conducted. JATL may pause editorial processing until the matter has been resolved.
