Soil Quality Evaluation and Land Management Directions on Dry Land in Sawan District, Buleleng Regency

Abstract


Intensive land use without conservation efforts leads to a decrease in soil quality and a decrease in production yields. The purpose of the research is to evaluate soil quality, determine limiting factors, and provide appropriate land management directions according to soil conditions in Sawan District. The research was carried out from June to December 2024 on dry land in Sawan District, Buleleng Regency. The method used by the survey method in soil sampling is based on the map of Homogeneous Land Units (HLU). Samples were taken by purposive sampling and composite, then tested for parameters according to the guidelines for determining soil quality based on 10 Minimum Data Sets (MDS) modified according to Lal (1994). The results of the study showed that the soil quality in Sawan District was classified as very good with an area of 2,569.88 ha (62%) covering the Giri Mas, Lemukih, Sekumpul, Galungan, Sudaji and Bebetin Villages. The quality of the land is classified as good with an area of 1,576.01 ha (38%) covering the areas of Sekumpul, Menyali, Bungkulan, Galungan, Suwug, Bebetin, and Sudaji Villages. The limiting factors in the study area include: texture, C-organic, CEC, Nutrients (N-total and P-available) and C-biomass. The recommended land management directions are the application of organic fertilizers, urea, and TSP/SP-36.
