Manuscript Types

The Humid Tropical Agroecotechnology Journal (JATL) publishes original and scientifically rigorous manuscripts that contribute to the development of agronomy, soil science, plant protection, humid tropical agroecosystems, and sustainable agriculture.

General Information

JATL accepts four principal types of manuscripts. Authors must select the manuscript type that most accurately represents the objectives, methods, content, and scientific contribution of their submission.

All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s requirements and fall within its focus and scope will be evaluated through a double-blind peer-review process.

Manuscript Type 01

Original Research Article

An Original Research Article presents new and previously unpublished findings obtained through systematic scientific investigation. The manuscript must clearly demonstrate originality, methodological validity, and a meaningful contribution to agricultural science or practice.

Recommended structure

Introduction
Materials and Methods
Results and Discussion
Conclusion
  • Must present original research data and findings.
  • Must include a clear research objective or hypothesis.
  • Must explain the research design and analytical methods.
  • Must distinguish clearly between results and interpretation.
  • Must include relevant ethical approval when the research involves humans, animals, hazardous materials, or protected resources.
Manuscript Type 02

Review Article

A Review Article provides a critical, systematic, and comprehensive synthesis of previously published research on a clearly defined topic relevant to the journal’s scope. A review must go beyond a descriptive summary by presenting critical analysis, research gaps, and directions for future studies.

Recommended structure

Introduction
Review Method
Thematic Synthesis
Research Gaps
Future Directions
Conclusion
  • Must address a focused and scientifically relevant topic.
  • Must explain the literature-search and selection approach.
  • Must critically evaluate the available evidence.
  • Must identify inconsistencies, limitations, and research gaps.
  • Systematic reviews and meta-analyses should follow appropriate reporting standards.
Manuscript Type 03

Methodological Advance

A Methodological Advance presents a new or substantially improved research method, analytical procedure, experimental protocol, measurement approach, or scientific tool relevant to agriculture and agroecotechnology.

Recommended structure

Background
Method Development
Validation
Performance Evaluation
Limitations
Conclusion
  • Must demonstrate a clear improvement over existing methods or protocols.
  • Must provide sufficient information for replication.
  • Must include validation or performance testing.
  • Should compare the proposed method with established approaches when appropriate.
  • Must explain potential applications, limitations, and conditions of use.
Manuscript Type 04

Technological Advance

A Technological Advance presents the development, implementation, testing, or improvement of a technology with a clear application in agricultural production, soil management, plant protection, environmental management, or humid tropical agroecosystems.

Recommended structure

Problem and Background
Technology Description
Implementation
Performance Testing
Feasibility and Impact
Conclusion
  • Must address a clearly identified agricultural problem or need.
  • Must describe the technology in sufficient detail for scientific evaluation.
  • Must provide objective testing or performance evidence.
  • Should evaluate technical feasibility, potential adoption, or environmental implications.
  • Must disclose relevant limitations and potential conflicts of interest.

Requirements for All Manuscript Types

  • Manuscripts must be original and must not have been published or be under consideration by another journal.
  • Manuscripts must be relevant to the JATL Focus and Scope.
  • Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English.
  • Titles, abstracts, and keywords must be provided in both Indonesian and English.
  • Manuscripts should normally be prepared within 10 pages, including tables, figures, and references, unless otherwise approved by the editors.
  • Authors must follow the journal template and reference style.
  • All listed authors must meet the journal’s authorship criteria and approve the submitted manuscript.
  • Authors must disclose funding, competing interests, ethical approval, and research-data availability when applicable.
  • The corresponding author is responsible for the accuracy and completeness of submission metadata.
