Focus and Scope

The Humid Tropical Agroecotechnology Journal (JATL) publishes scientific research and scholarly studies that contribute to the advancement of agronomy, soil science, and plant protection, particularly within humid tropical agroecosystems.

Journal Objectives

JATL aims to provide a reputable scholarly platform for the publication, exchange, and dissemination of scientific knowledge related to agroecotechnology and sustainable agricultural development.

The journal seeks to:

Advance scientific knowledge
Support the development of agricultural science and technology relevant to humid tropical environments.
Promote sustainable agriculture
Encourage responsible, productive, resilient, and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices.
Connect research and practice
Facilitate the application of research findings by academics, practitioners, policymakers, and agricultural communities.
Encourage scientific collaboration
Strengthen interdisciplinary and interinstitutional collaboration in agricultural research and innovation.

Core Scope

JATL considers manuscripts within the following three principal areas:

Scope 01

Agronomy

Research concerning crop production, plant development, and sustainable management of agricultural systems.

  • Crop growth and physiology
  • Crop production and productivity
  • Plant nutrition and fertilization
  • Cropping and farming systems
  • Seed science and technology
  • Plant breeding and crop improvement
  • Irrigation and water management
  • Sustainable and conservation agriculture
  • Climate-smart agriculture
  • Precision and smart farming
  • Agroforestry and integrated farming systems
  • Innovative crop-management technologies
Scope 02

Soil Science

Research concerning soil properties, processes, management, and their relationships with agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.

  • Soil physics, chemistry, and biology
  • Soil mineralogy and classification
  • Soil fertility and plant nutrition
  • Soil health and soil quality
  • Soil organic matter and carbon dynamics
  • Nutrient cycling and biogeochemistry
  • Land evaluation and land-use planning
  • Soil and water conservation
  • Tropical soil management
  • Soil pollution and remediation
  • Degraded-land rehabilitation
  • Post-mining land reclamation
Scope 03

Plant Protection

Research concerning the identification, ecology, monitoring, and sustainable management of organisms that affect plant health and agricultural production.

  • Agricultural insect pests
  • Plant diseases and pathogens
  • Weed science and weed management
  • Pest and disease ecology
  • Epidemiology of plant diseases
  • Integrated pest management
  • Biological control
  • Biopesticides and botanical pesticides
  • Pest and disease monitoring
  • Pest forecasting and surveillance
  • Pesticide efficacy and resistance
  • Environmentally sustainable plant protection

Interdisciplinary Research

Interdisciplinary manuscripts are welcome when they demonstrate a clear and substantial connection to agronomy, soil science, plant protection, humid tropical agroecosystems, or sustainable agricultural development. Studies combining ecological, environmental, technological, socioeconomic, or data-driven approaches must provide a direct and meaningful contribution to agricultural science or practice.

Geographical Relevance

JATL particularly encourages studies conducted in or relevant to humid tropical and tropical agricultural environments. Research from other geographical regions may also be considered when its findings, methods, or implications are relevant and transferable to the development of tropical agricultural systems.

Out-of-Scope Submissions

Manuscripts may be considered outside the journal’s scope when they:

  • Do not demonstrate a clear relationship with agronomy, soil science, plant protection, or agricultural systems.
  • Focus exclusively on general biology, chemistry, engineering, economics, or social science without a substantial agricultural application.
  • Present only routine laboratory, field, or descriptive observations without sufficient scientific analysis or contribution.
  • Report commercial product promotion without an objective scientific design and interpretation.
  • Fall outside the journal’s publication ethics, research integrity, and authorship requirements.
