Uji Karakteristik Hasil Transesterifikasi Dari Ekstrak Biji Ketapang (Terminalia catappa Linn) Terhadap Pengaruh Variasi Waktu Dengan Katalis KOH

Tumbuhan yang berpotensi sebagai bahan bakar biodiesel adalah tumbuhan ketapang (Terminalia catappa Linn). Ketapang mengandung minyak sebesar 40,15% sehingga minyak biji ketapang memiliki prospek untuk dijadikan suatu pilihan baru dalam industri minyak nabati dan merupakan tanaman yang potensil karena memiliki kandungan asam lemak jenuh. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hasil ekstrak dari biji ketapang dan mengetahui nilai pH dan FFA hasil esterifikasi dan transesterifikasi. Metode yang dilakukan untuk menghasilkan minyak adalah ekstraksi dengan metode maserasi dengan massa 75gram biji ketapang dan variasi waktu 1,2,3,4,5 hari. Pada penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perendaman pada hari ketiga memiliki volume yang besar dengan nilai FFA yang tidak terlalu besar yaitu sebesar 39%. Ekstrak minyak biji ketapang memiliki nilai persen yield 44,29% - 60%. Dilanjutkan dengan proses esterifikasi, pada proses ini diperoleh hasil Uji FFA sebesar 1,81% dengan pH 4. Hasil transesterifikasi diperoleh metil ester, menunjukkan nilai berat jenis 0,84 g/ml, kandungan asam lemak bebas (Persen FFA) 1,686 % dan pH 7.
