Abstract

Dating violence among young adults remains common in romantic relationships and is influenced by various psychological factors. This study aims to examine the influence of adult attachment and relationship self-efficacy on dating violence. The method used is a quantitative approach with a causal design. The study sample consisted of 407 young adult respondents selected through non-probability sampling using a purposive sampling method. The research instruments included the Experiences in Close Relationships Scale–Short Form (ECR-S) to measure attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance, the Relationship Self-Efficacy Scale (RSE) to measure an individual’s confidence in managing relationships, and the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (CADRI) to measure dating violence behavior. The results indicate that, individually, adult attachment and relationship self-efficacy significantly influence dating violence, with relationship self-efficacy exhibiting a negative relationship. Simultaneously, both variables also significantly influence dating violence. These findings indicate that high levels of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance increase the risk of dating violence, whereas high relationship self-efficacy acts as a protective factor against the psychological effects of dating violence.
