Money Attitude and Self-Esteem of K-Pop Fans and Their Impact on Compulsive Buying Behavior
Abstract
For K-Pop fans, purchasing merchandise associated with their idols is considered essential. Such merchandise serves not only as a form of support but also as a means to enhance social status and individual self-esteem within their social circles. Financial means allow K-Pop fans to easily purchase any merchandise they desire, a practice that can trigger compulsive buying behavior. This study aims to determine the influence of money attitude and self-esteem on compulsive buying behavior among K-Pop fans working in Medan. This study used a quantitative correlational method with a sample of 401 K-Pop fans working in Medan. The sampling technique used in this study was purposive sampling. The data collection method used was the Compulsive Buying (CBS), Money Attitude (MAS), and Self-esteem (RSE) scales. The data analysis technique used was multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that there is an influence of money attitude and self-esteem on compulsive buying behavior among K-Pop fans who are working. K-Pop fans need to practice cognitive awareness and independence to avoid uncontrolled buying behavior, especially not considering the consumptive act of buying merchandise from idol figures as a manifestation of their social status and self-esteem and using money more wisely.
