Abstract

Reading is important ability that must be mastered by students to be able understand all lessons in school. However, not all students can master reading ability quickly, especially slow learners who have limitation in intellectual capacity, memory skills, and concentration. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Fernald Method to improve of reading ability in junior high school students who are slow learners and have early reading problem. The instrument of data collectionwas BINET and informal reading inventory. The methodology of this research is to use single subject experiment and analyze the data using visual graph analysis techniques of pretest and post-test scores.  Fernald method is conducted as many as 6 sessions. The result of the study showed an increase reading ability after being given the intervention. It can be concluded that the Fernald method can be used to improve reading ability in junior high school student with slow learner.
