Abstract

Japanese government efforts to relocate the US military base in Okinawa have been started since 1996, through a poll in which 90% of the people in Okinawa want the US military base to relocate from Okinawa. It is not out of the loss felt by the people of Okinawa. The negative impact from the presence of the military base perceived by the people of Okinawa including health problems, crimes and also economic problems. Various cities located not far from the Okinawa region have been try to be an alternative location to relocate the military base. But it often get hard protests by the Japanese public until finally in 2009, both sides agreed to relocate some facilities of the US military base from Okinawa to Guam.
