Ardi Nuswantoro

Abstract

This study examines the utilization of social networking as a strategy of public diplomacy of the United States in Indonesia. United States government named such public diplomacy strategy as public diplomacy 2.0. The question that will be answered in this research is: why United State’s public diplomacy 2.0 is effectively implemented in Indonesia? To answer these questions, this study uses the theory of public sphere that is developed by Jurgen Habermas. Based on Habermas’ theory, this study found that the effectiveness of public diplomacy 2.0 emerged because Indonesia’s social networking sphere has been transformed into an ideal public sphere.
